I was thinking of the parallel between such a scheme and &#8216;<em>single minded knowing<\/em>&#8216;.\u00c2\u00a0The pyramid scheme is based on the impossible promise of more, somewhat similar to the motivations of a <em>self<\/em> reaching forward in time, in the hopes of consolidating more around it, and filling its <em>&#8216;hollow&#8217;<\/em> and separation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As Rinpoche says, &#8220;Based on the founding story of the self and the narra\u00c2\u00adtive structures it supports, a form of understanding arises that could be called \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc<em>single-minded<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Whereas the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcperceiver\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 observes from moment to moment, the self sweeps each new \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmomentary\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 image or event into the flow of the founding story\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s narrative, continuously sustaining and reaffirming the narrative. Each new \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcexperience\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is assigned a place within a web of needs, interests, situational patterns, and emotional reactions.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0LOK p.174-5<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Like an inverted pyramid, <em>the self<\/em> comes-out at a point in time, through the founding story, &#8216;<em>I am here<\/em>&#8216;, (the Witness feels it, the narrator tells it), and from that point attempts to freeze time, space, and a world, to build the upside down pyramid scheme of associations and referrals&#8230; just a thought.<\/p>\n<p>David<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c2\u00a0It occurred to me that, in this country anyway, we&#8217;ve been hearing a lot about &#8220;pyramid schemes&#8220;.
