Arthur raises good questions in his post (which is written in German, so I’ll paraphrase): he wonders whether it is possible to visualize something truly new, or whether in visualizing the Giant Body, he is just drawing on memories stored in his “database,” such as science fiction movies. At the other extreme, he wonders if it is possible to visualize simply empty space, nothing at all. Is that what is meant by “Space projecting space into space”?<\/p>\n
To start with the last question, the texts make it clear that it is not very fruitful to try to generate an experience of “nothing at all.” Space has to show up in a way that is more related to our ordinary experience: perhaps as an accommodating element or capacity, perhaps as the sense of dimensionality, or in other ways.<\/p>\n
In the TSK readings, Rinpoche raises a similar question on p. 40 of TSK, which is assigned for Unit 10: “How seriously can we take these exercises of visualization,” he asks. Isn’t all this just imaginary. Perhaps it would be useful to read these pages now, and see how they relate to your experience.<\/p>\n
