{"id":5884,"date":"2014-06-01T08:49:27","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T15:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cciforum.dreamhosters.com\/?p=5884"},"modified":"2014-07-17T10:13:13","modified_gmt":"2014-07-17T17:13:13","slug":"bystander-in-from-the-cold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cciforum.dreamhosters.com\/?p=5884","title":{"rendered":"Bystander in from the Cold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Session 5, Assignment for Week 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: Why study about By-standers and Outside-standers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A: Well, knowing that my methods of knowing are flawed helps me to not expect accuracy or clairvoyance from my bias-stander perspective of outside-standers.\u00c2\u00a0 Realizing that my understanding of the environments I enter and the interests of the people with whom I interact is approximate, and possibly little more than my own projection, is empowering.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: Why is that empowering?\u00c2\u00a0 It sounds disengaged, nihilistic even.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><strong>A: Not at all.\u00c2\u00a0 It allows me to be <em>more<\/em> engaged and present.\u00c2\u00a0 Since I know I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know (what is in the hearts and minds of friends, family and associates) I feel called upon to pay more attention to what they are actually saying and how they say it.\u00c2\u00a0 I have to remain present&#8211; like someone visiting from a foreign land who doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know the language or the local customs&#8211;if I am to connect in any meaningful way with others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: Kind of like Socrates saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If I know anything that others don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s that I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know\u00e2\u20ac\u009d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><strong>A: Perhaps.\u00c2\u00a0 But I find that TSK keeps the door to the unknown open longer and wider.\u00c2\u00a0 In the Socratic dialogues, Socrates seems to already know what he believes and is able to manipulate less developed minds to arrive at his own beliefs.\u00c2\u00a0 TSK is more concerned with opening the mind of bias-standers, such as myself, to the possibility that a vast unknown is out there in time and space, and that the winds of knowing are even now catching at the main sail.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Session 5, Assignment for Week 6.
