Following up on Jack\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s suggestion to look at the list of conventional views (listed on TSK 83-85) and reflect on how they differ from the TSK vision\u00e2\u20ac\u201dwhat stands out most for me is how the meditative phrase, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Be Here Now\u00e2\u20ac\u009d expresses a limited view of being<\/em> in space<\/em> and time<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Ram Dass, who made this phrase a mantra in the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc60\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, gave something positive to the world, as has Eckhart Tolle in his book, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Power of Now.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 And it is encouraging to see that people, outside of the small group of people who study TSK, can experience an alternative to the discouragement and dread instilled in us in the face of the powerful inertial forces that are sweeping across our world.<\/p>\n

At the same time, reading \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Power of Now\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, after years of appreciative study of the TSK vision, I felt that something was missing in Tolle\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Perhaps not for him personally, but as a communicated vision, the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201cwhile providing a natural doorway into a greater Time\u00e2\u20ac\u201ccannot be the destination.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0TSK warns of having any pre-established destination, including that of activating an intense feeling of presence in the Now.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on this, I notice my own infatuation with the idea that the future is glimpsed through a window and beckons outside an open door.\u00c2\u00a0 I suppose we all need some kind of metaphor for a greater \u00e2\u20ac\u0153reality\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that is just a step away.\u00c2\u00a0 But it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s that step that is the issue.\u00c2\u00a0 If we are busy \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcbeing here now\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, we may miss that we are already the beneficiaries of a greater being in the openness of a greater space (a spaciousness that embraces all here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and all there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s) and that we are animated by a greater time (a time which permeates all now\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and all when\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
