For many, many months I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been working with memories, and for many weeks Ken, my fellow students and I have also been working with light in numerous ways\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6light that illuminates, reflects, warms, and guides, and a correlative feeling of buoyancy, a lightness of being. We encounter these \u00e2\u20ac\u02dclight facets<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in the world around us, but also within us. In our studies and practices, whether tracking memories, or exploring whatever we face in the current moment\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6we are invited<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 Being beckons…<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Starting with our own inner concerns, can we open a cosmology of light? The discipline that could lead to such lightness is a simple one. It starts with fully inhabiting the situation we find ourselves in\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 we have buried the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dclightness\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of awareness; have pulled it down to earth through the gravity of thought and conditioning. But we can do otherwise. We acknowledge this possibility in the moment we confront the darkness in our lives. In the depths of darkness, there are traces of clarity.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em>

So when Ken awakens to gingerly get out of bed bleary-eyed, with a mind somewhat unencumbered by preoccupations, is it so far-fetched that he might tumble into the light\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6?<\/p>\n

The Day Begins<\/strong>

September’s getting on,
\nI should be too,
\nSoftly rolling out of bed,
\nHours before dawn,
\nMy feet finding the floor,
\n\tThen shuffling inch by inch
\n\tToward the open bathroom door,<\/p>\n

\tSlowly coming to a stop,
\n\tEyes opening now
\n\tTo the dimmest of lights,
\n\tThe door filled with it,<\/p>\n

\tSo much so it seems to be
\n\tA mirror, a deeply open
\n\tReflecting, makes sense,<\/p>\n

\tNot a surface, but
\n\tNonetheless even so it seems to be
\n\t\tMirroring everything, even
\n\t\t\tBecoming this room,<\/p>\n

\t\tThe small rug, the sink, a tub,
\n\t\t\tAnd me too, now sliding the door
\n\t\t\tOpen, the light is holding
\n\t\t\tMe up, revealing me as I
\n\t\t\tEnter the shower,<\/p>\n

\t\t\tFinding out to my delight
\n\t\t\tThat everything’s
\n\t\t\tRight here, even
\n\t\t\tThe morning, its<\/p>\n

\t\t\tGrey tones lightening up
\n\t\t\tJust as they should,
\n\t\t\tI am so ready
