In this poem, TSK Instructor Ken McKeon got me thinking about opening and also freezing a moment, and what that feels like\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 freezing is like when I sometime want to hold on tight to something pleasing, or alternatively, I want to hold off for this moment, because I anticipate a coming moment will be awful\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 something to be avoided at all cost. So I flatten out the fullness of time, stamp it down to keep it from spreading. I do it routinely. Doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 everyone? But what is lost? On the other hand, when I open time there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s little clamping down on the moment\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 I just let it rip, with the flow of what arises\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 an artful wonder, and deep interest in the unfolding.<\/p>\n

Could it be the essence of time is a smooth, SLIPPERY, and AROUSING nature? Tarthang Tulku says: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153When fully appreciated, Great Time is seen to be a kind of perfectly liquid, lubricious dimension\u00e2\u20ac\u201dit is quintessentially \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcslippery\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d My exposure implies time seems to include pleasure, and also pain, and all intermediate experience, with an immeasurable depth. I can move along a frictional and conflicted surface, or sink into varied levels of what is experienced\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 This is what Ken\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s poem does for me\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 a kind of vehicle that points to the depth and layers of a moment\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 his moment by the side of a road\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and my moment, sitting here at the side of a field…<\/p>\n

STASIS

I am parked on the side of an old road,<\/p>\n

A clean side, no trash, no slick salty chip bags,
\nNo thrown away beer cans, greasy burger wraps,
\nOr even greasier empty French fry sacks,<\/p>\n

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a clear side,
\nSand flecked,<\/p>\n

Steps away from big sand dunes,
\nThey build up, they fall away,<\/p>\n

They are dry breaking waves,
\nSuper slow surf tumbles,<\/p>\n

A dry sea, not a dead sea,<\/p>\n

Scurrying lizards, wind bobbled creosotes,
\nTracings of a sidewinder,
\nTracks of a kangaroo mouse,
\nThese two last done under
\nThe vast night\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sweep of stars,
\nTheir streaming clarity,<\/p>\n

Chill and eternal,
\nBoiling with change,<\/p>\n

The stunned eyes of a kangaroo mouse,
\nThe fanged flash
\nOf a striking snake,<\/p>\n

I think on that snake\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
\nSoon to be eyeless skull,
\nIts long frail tube of fleshless ribs,
\nIts silenced rattle,<\/p>\n

And of the lifting, falling, wave of sand
\nThat snake sideways slid on down
\nTo find the mincing little hopping mouse,
\nIt will topple forever,
\nIt will build as well,
