THE DISPLAY
\n\tby Ken McKeon<\/p>\n

Golden Buddhistic statues stand behind the clear glass walls
\nOf a display case set up at the front of a meditation room, <\/p>\n

The forms do not move,
\n They do not have to,
\nThey represent a completely stilled
\nEternal non-positional timeless golden realm
\n Of uncontorted dimensionless perfections<\/p>\n

You have to see them to believe them,
\nAnd I have tried to do that,
\n Tried with my eyes closed, my eyes open, my eyes blinking,
\n I have tried to tame the fury of my mind
\nJust to get a glimpse of them,
\nNothing seemed to work and I passed on,<\/p>\n

I stood in line for centuries trying
\nTo be reborn as a hummingbird or a dragonfly,
\n I figured that lovely creatures given to stillness
\nWould have a shot at eternity,<\/p>\n

I ended up a fly,
\nA dull black nothing little thing,
\nI was a mess,
\nI lived in garbage,
\nI was a fecaloid, shy, stinky, awful,
\nI washed my hands continually,
\nThat didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t help.<\/p>\n

I ended up being caught behind a kitchen window frame,
\n My wings failed,
\n My small heart gave out,
\n My little fly brain blanked,
\n I was down to nothing,
\nMy last buzz screamed out into the final air,
\n That air was the last sky I ever knew,
\nIt vanished and the loss was overwhelming,<\/p>\n

And I found myself doing prostrations for a thousand years,
\n I was the least part
\n Of an eternity of sand,
\n I was the glass of forever,
\nThe drifting mountains, the sliding tides,
\nI found my rest at last in a wildflower, a breeze, the springtime.
\nI woke up as a river crashing through a granite gorge,
\n It was my heart,
\n That was all I ever came to be,
\nThat and the opening shoreline that I felt
