\nTSK Instructor Ken McKeon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s poem brings this up for me\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 <\/p>\n

ON THE ROAD\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 the journey can get monotonous, somewhere between gruesome and gratifying\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 the space between disgust and desire\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 bleak and blissful\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 between lost and found. \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWhere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, seems to be between \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmovement\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcthe story\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, between the lines\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 Seems the ‘center’ is in the sensing\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 the feel of immediacy as it unfolds\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 on the living road\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and it is what it is\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 between ominous and awesome\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 a gift on loan\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 till journey’s end.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Reflect on the course that your life has been taking. Without encouraging negative emotions, focus especially on the mistakes and missed opportunities, the broken promises and failed intentions. Let yourself feel the pain that this way of being brings in its wake. Cultivate a sense of caring about this pain, as you might care about a good friend\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s suffering. Let this feeling penetrate the power of the fabrications you ordinarily use to isolate yourself from time\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s immediacy, so that you can FEEL TIME\u00e2\u20ac\u2122S PASSING\u00e2\u20ac\u201din the beating of your heart, in the rise and fall of the breath, in the steady flow of thoughts and images, in the hopes and wishes gone unfulfilled<\/em>.<\/p>\n

By switching back and forth from caring to analysis [of story and transition between], you will learn to integrate and balance these two forms of inquiry. An inner sense of conviction forms, giving you confidence that you are on a journey toward the truth of time.<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d

I think of pulling to the side of the six lane
\nStraight shot Highway 5
\n As it tears on towards LA,<\/p>\n

It would be a missing the boat move,
\n Being left on the dock,
\n The band gone, the crowds too,
\n It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s like becoming an it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all over,
\n Tired, shaking, lapsing into aching,<\/p>\n

Would there were a pond around,
\na hut, a porch,
\n And daybreak too
\n To jostle me
\n to wakefulness and life,
\nThat sounds wonderful and hokey,
\nPlay it out anyway,
\n Like golden prayer wheels spinning in the dawn,
\n Like frosty grasses steaming with light,
\n Like stiff boots easing by a fire,<\/p>\n

There is so much to do,
\n But first off, flapjacks and coffee
\nAfter morning practice in a converted attic,
\n Candlelight and incense,
\n A few rows of zafu\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s,
\n One struck gong,<\/p>\n

Endless lifetimes put a hammer in my hand,
\n Strike down on a nail,
\n Fashion a new life now,<\/p>\n

Six lanes of traffic,
\nNo exit sign for miles,
\nJust how we get off,
