LOOKING FOR THE SOURCE OF THOUGHTS\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n

FOCUS ON ALLOWING THE THOUGHTS TO PRESENT THEMSELVES\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6. As thoughts present, investigate: IS THERE A SOURCE OR PLACE OF THEIR ORIGIN? Do they abide someplace? Do they go somewhere? Relax any effortfulness you notice, TRYING TO ANSWER THE QUESTION \u00e2\u20ac\u201c GETTING ANSWERS ISN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122T NECESSARY. [Emphasis added]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It gets tricky looking for the source of thoughts. Rinpoche seems to be pointing us toward a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcspace\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 from which thoughts emerge\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and what does he mean, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Getting answers isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t necessary?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Normally, when I work with this exercise I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m looking for that space\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 where is it in my experience? I go searching through my memories of when I saw this space. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s precisely what I do when I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m looking for answers to questions I might pose. The problem is my memories are largely thoughts, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re objects I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve categorized and classified, labeled and evaluated\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re objects of thought. Thoughts are coming from a space that is not an object, but I unwittingly keep making this source-space a thought-object. I realize thoughts ABOUT the space are NOT that open-source I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m looking for. For this exercise, Space is not a thing, or an object\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the present moment experience of openness Rinpoche is really pointing toward.<\/p>\n

So how do I \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcanswer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 a question where answers aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t necessary? Is there a source of thoughts? I think it may require a shift from conceptual constructions to FEELING in the open moment. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something like when practicing the Giant Body exercise and trying to see the partitioned areas from all sides at once\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and you suddenly shift to being open. Another example might be if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re walking along lost in thoughts, you look up and you are thunderstruck by a magnificent sunset\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 color and form seem to explode in the heart\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 the world of thoughts you were lost in simply dissolve in the full-open feel of the moment.
