About Michael Gray

I first started studying TSK in the mid 1980's and have since attended a number of retreats and workshops at the Nyingma Institute, in both TSK and Buddhist themes. I participated in the life-changing Human Development Training Program in 1991, and upon returning to Albuquerque co-founded an organization, Friends in Time (with a friend who has Lou Gehrig's Disease), which continues to serve people with similiar disabilities. I contributed an essay to "A New Way of Being"--the last one in the book--in which I describe how learning to honor who I have been has broadened and deepened my openness to present experience. I live in New Mexico with my wife and two sons.

Appreciating our Vehicle

I’ve often wondered why some men lavish such care on their cars. There it sits in the driveway, every panel, window, bumper and wheel gleaming in the sun. And when the engine is turned over you can be sure it … Continue reading

Just Going Through a Phase

Have you ever noticed that you can’t divide the seven days of a week into two equal parts? I water the lawn twice a week during the summer months and my sprinkler system, which knows about minutes, hours, days, weeks, … Continue reading

It is Good to Receive

We hear that it’s better to give than to receive, and my experience is that when I give of myself the world feels friendlier. Last night, driving to a restaurant (in retrospect I must have been distracted by life and … Continue reading

Whither Saileth the Rain?

When rain falls, the gutters run. If it rains for a while, the lawns perk up, the trees drink, the gutters reach out to the nearby Rio Grande, and water brings a spirit of rejuvenation and growth to the land. … Continue reading

Reaching the Great Water

I have been influenced by a way of looking at life—my life, all of life—that hovers beyond words and concepts, even while it nourishes me. Perhaps I’ve already lost anyone who wandered in looking for a pick-me-up or an open … Continue reading

Another Dawning

This morning, I skimmed through my journal entries since late November last year. I was looking for something that could start me on a blog for this week. But all I found was evidence that my days are an ebb … Continue reading

A New Year has Arrived

Well 2019 has arrived. I have to say I saw it coming. Does that mean it’s time for a few resolutions? The problem with most of my ‘resolutions’ is that they are really ‘re-solutions’, repeating familiar strategies for dealing with … Continue reading

Washing the Dishes

This morning, after Swimming in Space for awhile, I elected–instead of sitting with the sensations stimulated by that practice–to continue washing the dishes. Walking through the darkened rooms, laying my extra shirt down on a chair, washing and rinsing a … Continue reading

Maybe Light My Fire

In the natural world, or at least when human ingenuity impinges upon it, we see moths flying into candle flames and hovering around porch lights and street lamps. If a sea captain were to steer toward a lighthouse on a … Continue reading
