Here we are in Unit 3, and . . .

Hi all,

I notice no one has moved on in the posts to unit 3. I accept responsibility for this, since I did not write an introductory post. I will change that for the next unit.

To be honest, I am finding that the pace of one unit a week is pretty intense. What would people think of reducing the pace? I guess it would have to be one unit every 2 weeks?

Since a lot of people have not yet written any posts, I am not sure if we will be able to get a consensus. I may try to send out an email on this question.

Please do share your experiences, positive, negative, puzzled, or any other kind.

Jack

    Jack,

I am keeping up with the reading and comments OK, since I now am not in full time work as I was previously. However, I do find the suggestion to practise two and sometimes three exercises within a week lessens my ability to ‘get into’ any of them. I am used to spending 2-4 weeks working on an exercise in depth, and thus would prefer to move ahead more slowly on these, though I am happy to keep going at the current pace if others prefer.

    Hi Jack and all,

I’m changing my mind about the pace. After re-reading the introductory material a third time, I finally “GET IT” that we have received the 6 foundational exercises for the entire series. Not to say there won’t be supplemental exercises to consider, but we have our core. It was the speed of receiving these six foundational exercises that was moving too quickly for me. But, now, I finally understand this was to be an introduction. (This is about listening, which I thought I did, vs. hearing, which was what I didn’t do.) I’m fine with however we proceed; same pace or slower.

Re. length of posts, it’s so subjective, and everyone is writing from their own truths, that I say keep it open with the understanding that it’s our choice to read or not to read everything.

    Hello,
I’d prefer to keep up the pace but wouldn’t mind too much if we would slow down because there are people who want to give the texts and exercises more time. I don’t have a lot of time myself but I like the speed in exercising; we could come back to earlier exercises later on or after the course. One method for me to save some time though is to skip the posts that are too long for me to read. I’m interested in doing the exercises and commenting on them with some quick notes so that it is more like talking to each other. I think this was originally meant to be this way; notes for the diary in your diary, notes for communication on the internet. Besides I feel that not taking up too much space (at least in the beginnnig of this course) in the posts is also helping better to form a community of inquiry. To do this I think it also would be helpful if Jack had a separate space in the posting area so that he is able to comment on posts and connect them at the same time; more like what a teacher can do in the non-virtual classroom. I think it would be more fruitful this way, save reading-time as well and would be more inviting to other people to write a post or comment.

In short; let’s keep up the pace, install a preferred maximum length for posts and comments and have Jack in a place that we can all immediately notice what he’s doing and use this as a guideline to other posts and comments. Let’s adapt this community of inquiry to the preferences of the participants.

    Dear Jack,
I agree that the tempo is guite too guick. I got the book last week, so
I am behind everybody for two units. I prefer going through all excerices in every units and it takes a lot of time.

    All the best to everybody
    Pirkko

Thanks, Jack. I would love a slower pace. Even though I have read through unit 3, including suggested exercises, I have not been ready to leave the practices of the first two units. If we slowed down, would it mean extra work for you to reconfigure the program? Would we miss elements that you think are critical?

    Lieber Jack,
    Peter.
