On p 34 of “Rains”, Jack notes TSK Guide 21 Symbols. This got me thinking about words as symbols and how the reading that we are doing is about taking in multitudes of symbols (words), and digesting, absorbing, metabolizing, and converting them into fuel towards understanding the TSK vision. Then, I went to LOK 47 and 49, referenced in TSK Guide 21, but also fell into LOK 48 (p393) — “With the exhibition of space central, the distinction between ‘mental’ and ‘physical’ will not hold.” Rinpoche presents a helpful (to me) analogy in LOK 47 (p 390) — “If someone thought he could satisfy his hunger by the saying the word, ‘food,’ he would quickly learn to acknowledge his mistake through the effect on his own body.” Where am I going with this? It’s about how to work with the words as symbols with just the right amount of stickiness — not too literally, but not too casually either. And then in integrating the study and practice, which for me are somewhat about integrating the mental (thinking) and physical (embodiment and sensory awareness)–the integration where the distinctions disappear– the notion that mental and physical distinctions can disappear beckons me!
