For me this practice is difficult at first. But if I consider the quote from LOK pg xliii-xliv it seems that some light comes in:
Externally, events continued to unfold much as they had before, subject to their own momentum. But internally I understood and experienced for myself how thought imposed patterns and limits. Once I saw these limits in the act of being set up, I found that I was no longer subject to them.
For me this practice brings many possibilities. The choice of the object is one. It can be a solid object, a person or a thought. Each one evokes a different kind of communication.
Many thoughts come up about what is this knowing, about my feelings for the object, if I like it or not, if it is interesting or not, or simply drifting away. When I tried the reversal, I felt uncomfortable, vulnerable. The separation subject object was still there.
But when I went outdoors and chose to practice with a cloud in the sky, a shift has happened. I didn´t know if that experience was subject-object oriented or the contrary. I was just sharing the quality of lightness with the cloud.
I wondered if Inclusion ans synthesis happen when subject and object merge and when experience has one quality, one taste.
