Adding dimension to space and thought

In considering the commentary at the end of TSK ex. 6

“2. Although linear connections within a world may always suffice (for ordinary perspectives) to locate and explain any occurrence, nevertheless, this world and its uninterrupted linear sequences represent an arbitrary and stubborn pattern which has derived its energy and possibilities from a more open ‘space’. Once the pattern has locked into place, its own causal principles begin to operate; the knowing subject sees located objects, and space’ is lost, or shut out.”

This reminds me how much our perception is limited by the prevailing world view of ‘reality’ and I’m thankful for the TSK vision which opens our perception of space to become “the necessary accommodating matrix for whatever we experience.”

When we expand our focal setting to penetrate the many layers of space, we can indeed find ourselves inhabiting a territory beyond the accepted norm (for this society). We can still experience the presence of a person who has died (no longer occupying linear space) and we can become aware of the emotional space a person habitually carries around them. The thoughts I chose to furnish my personal (private?) space can significantly colour my perception and influence my behaviour. In doing last week’s walk around practice regarding the space of thoughts, these were my experiences:

Thinking of my body, the focus is strong, the light is bright and pure. As I extend my thoughts outside my body the ‘light’ changes, there are different colours and textures coming in. It occurs to me that there could be ‘contours’ or resonance patterns that link similar things, ideas, feelings or attitudes. These contours are not mutually exclusive and by penetrating the ‘translucent outlines’ I enter another realm again: a harmonic chord, its individual notes and the spaces between.

Its remarkable that TSK was written before the advent of String Theory; its folding in of dimensions illustrate ‘space projecting space into space’. This week’s practice reminded me of Rob Bryanton’s Youtube series on imagining other dimensions which I’ve found helpful in shifting my perception beyond its linear tendency. Here is the link to the 5th dimension video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN24Sv0qS1w . Apologies if you’ve all seen these before, I’m still new around here.
