Our ordinary focus on the content of experience as it arises in time is something like focusing on the air bubbles that form within a rushing stream of water… DTS 277
However, we can go beyond the fascination the bubbles have on us and penetrate beneath the level or ordinary experience.
This morning I was at the airport waiting for the time to board and remembered the exercise of watching the arising of appearances.
That happened so fast that for one moment I couldn´t see the arising, and it seemed that my world were always there, frozen, showing all the things I have already known.
Like a radar, I tried to see what was going on. My awareness could not embrace everything that was there. It was as if I was aware of some things and my mind filled all the blanks with what was known and familiar to me. No elephants or aliens at the airport.
There was a drive to label and to have everything under control. Despite trying not to focus and establish an overview of the entire environment, there was a gravity capturing my awareness identifying differences in the homogeneous known environment: different sounds, a helicopter flying in the sky, a rushed fat woman.
Everything that was not in tune with the environment led to uncomfortable feelings that almost always gave rise to an emotion, especially irritation.
Moments of open awareness awake an inner silence. However a feeling of insecurity took shape every moment in that awareness was unfocused and open, urging me to find some place to put the awareness to rest.
As I let awareness be open and unpolluted a warm possibility to bring the heart of space to every perception arose. May I jump to this possibility.
