In the beginning . . .

I found myself in practice this morning with a phrase from Milarepa dwelling in my mind:

In the beginning, nothing comes;
In the middle nothing stays;
In the end nothing goes.

Having looked it up (The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa, courtesy of Google, p. 102), I see that the verse concludes: “Thus, one remains in the equality of past, present, and future.”

I didn’t so much think about this; it just kept coming back as I focused on present arising of the future.
