A Sense of Caring

To guard against  self-deception, it is important to balance the sense of caring and the feeling of immediacy it can bring with insight into the functioning of conventional temporality.

One way to cultivate such insight is to review and reflect on the analytic investigation of the structures of time presented earlier in this book. If the analysis seems abstract, return to the practice of cultivating caring, letting the feelings that come with caring circulate through your body and into your heart. Then continue with your analysis. The point of such analysis is not to compel assent, but to awaken a penetrating clarity that will not settle for the old and unexamined structures.

By switching back and forth from caring to analysis, you will learn to integrate and balance these two forms of inquiry. An inner sense of conviction forms, giving you confidence that you are on a journey toward the truth of time. DTS 291
