WHAT IS POSITIVE TIME?

“Perhaps we have memories of times when wonderment and wholesome feelings seemed natural; if so, we can invite this presence into our lives. Can we recall positive thoughts and feelings and imprint them in our memory? Can we be our own friend and counselor? Can we see with fresh eyes?

[Invite] the quality of time to manifest within experience. To do so, invite the wholeness of perception into each sense perception and each thought. Let this wholeness deepen beyond observation. You can appreciate whatever arises, seeing each arising as an instance of the time-space interplay. Within seeing there is beauty and light; within hearing there is stillness and meaning. The more you can cherish the treasures that time presents, the more you will have the sense of acting INTO time and space and acting ON BEHALF of all phenomena. Ultimately, this appreciation can expand to accommodate the transforming wholeness of love…

From decade to decade and year to year, events are speeding up. Once we penetrate beneath the tremendous variety of things generated on the surface of experience, we realize that the choices available to us at a deeper level are steadily diminishing. The temporal momentum threatens to overwhelm us. A dark directionality is gathering force, and the lightness of life is losing its luster… [But by] restoring the power of knowledge and of positive imagination. Drawing on these precious resources, we can look to our own conduct with full responsibility, controlling our own energy. We can sort out for ourselves the patterns that lead to pain, suffering, confusion, and the chaotic.”

While I can’t speak for what TSK teacher Ken intended with his poem, nevertheless, it works on me, IN me, and my mind makes a connection between what Rinpoche says, and what Ken’s poem seems to generate… THE POWER OF POSITIVE TIME…

BLUE SKIES
by Ken McKeon

A song shows up in my mind,
Blue Skies,
And I find before me
A Rainbow Ice,
That’s cool,

And it’s late morning time in Hanalei,
Sun and clouds,
And wind enough to keep the clanging anchor chains
Alive in our ears,
Walk with me now beside the bay,
Warm sand, warm water,
Lazy healing waves brush through
Over our toes,
They splash up to our knees,
A rush of sensory ease,
Our lungs are wonderful,
I think of running towards a swim,
Join in,

I toss my shirt down,
I dive in,
Bubbling body laughter clears my mind.
We stroke away, out to the boats and back,
Inwardly I see the palms, the rounded hills, the skies,
Never saw the day shining so bright,
Blue skies from now on with you.
