EDGE OF THE FUTURE…
We’re on a two week break in Full Presence Mindfulness class, we are encouraged to, among other things, continue or work with ‘Dynamics of Time and Space’, Exercise 4… EDGE OF THE FUTURE. In this practice we are invited to, “Settle awareness at the very point where reality is conducted into being… Words arise and sense perception takes form. Look just before the arising: What are the words based on? How is experience conducted through the mind and how does the mind respond? What knowledge does this conducting sponsor? What knowledge does it reject?â€
A friend was writing in his Blog about ‘what motivates’. It set me to an afternoon of quiet inquiry. I often engage in inquiring at the ‘edge’ of arising experience… of thoughts while writing, of the transitioning of moments between now and what arises… and so on. So these short paragraphs are practice notes, I thought I would share regarding motivation and intention in my attentiveness…
Looking into my experience, ‘MOTIVATION’ at its source [at the edge] seems a wispy, wavy thing… or not quite yet a thing… asymmetrical until vague form begins to clarify. Not only to become part of a conceptual framing, but percolating up from body-depth… to gradually embody out of space, and can lead anywhere to almost any unthought possibility. Motivation feels like the life-force a constellation of content seeks to self-generate.
On the other hand, ‘INTENTION’ seems to provide motivation with subtle extent… an open direction NOT YET NARROWED, the possibility of a seed… an amorphous particle… something in a continuum of feeling that senses may attune with, that floats up to swim in a medium of remembrance, and impressions of other sensual felts that struggle [even push] to find expression in language. And it’s as if the subtle intent begins the creating of the specific space attuned to the rising specificity of its content.
Still working on how words arise and sense perception takes form…
