The Roots of Coincidence

I’ve been remembering Arthur Koestler’s book, with the above title, this week because of a new bizarre connection which has surfaced (adding to a group of similarly implausible coincidences in my experience).  One of the previous ones was that my wife and I both lived in the same little building behind a larger house, ten years apart.  The new one this week was that a book doctor to whom I sent a manuscript recently once rented the same house as I lived in when first coming to Albuquerque thirty years ago.  If I remember correctly, Koestler says to pay attention to such logically improbably connections because they are a window into a deeper reality.  And this week’s TSK reading, about a second level of time, goes further in presenting what is revealed when Time casts up these unlikely correspondences.  But I still wonder what I can do with them.  I guess just let them add to a gathering body of evidence that linear, sequential time is not the only game in town. –Michael

About Michael Gray

I first started studying TSK in the mid 1980's and have since attended a number of retreats and workshops at the Nyingma Institute, in both TSK and Buddhist themes. I participated in the life-changing Human Development Training Program in 1991, and upon returning to Albuquerque co-founded an organization, Friends in Time (with a friend who has Lou Gehrig's Disease), which continues to serve people with similiar disabilities. I contributed an essay to "A New Way of Being"--the last one in the book--in which I describe how learning to honor who I have been has broadened and deepened my openness to present experience. I live in New Mexico with my wife and two sons.
