Did anyone envision this future (the next unit) in looking at the past-present-future of each moment? Well, here we are. The fact that time is predictable in this way, that tomorrow will come, and then next week, and so on, has always seemed to me rather miraculous, but perhaps also rather confining. Not that our experience marches in lock-step with the rhythms of the sun and moon! Far from it.
Now that we’re back in the domain of knowledge, I have a suggestion. I’ve been appreciating people’s comments, but they do focus quite strongly on the practices. Understandable, but I don’t want to limit appreciation of the readings. Take a look at the passage from DTS that is quoted on the top of p. 45 of When It Rains. The suggestion here is that there is a way of knowing that does not depend on explaining, and that accessing it involves engaging a different temporal structure. So here is a great place to integrate the exploration into time that we have been doing with a different sense of knowing. Maybe the right question to get this exploration started is: How does this present moment of experience, in which I am absorbed and embedded, arise?
If you want a more general inquiry, also from DTS, look at the question of how to embody knowledge (p. xxvii). This is a question closely linked to LOK Ex. 38.
