The chapters from DTS that we start to work with this week offer the most sustained discussion of light in the body of TSK books, so we want to take our time. The reading goes only to the top of p. 203.
Here is how I would put the suggestion explored in the first two pages of the reading: Just as we cannot discover any specific meanings if we do not already have the possibility that experience can be meaningful, so we cannot discover any specific appearance if we do not already have the the possibility that ‘something’ can appear. This possibility of appearance is light. And for light to have this capacity, it must in some way embody knowledge.
We have already been working with this possibility of light as embodying knowledge in the exercises we have been doing. For example, is there a knowing dimension in TSK Ex. 34 (Embodiment of Knowledge)? What is it like to contact this way of knowing? These are the kinds of questions that concern us. As people have been saying, it is not easy to put such possibilities into words.
Now, it is fine to keep working with any of the exercises we have been doing if you find them fruitful. . You can also go on to the exercises for this week (DTS 20 and 21). Exercise 20 is really just a suggestion to find new possibilities within experience, which is what TSK is all about anyway.
Enjoy your explorations.
