Meaning vs Inspiraton
During the phone session today there was some discussion about the word “meaningâ€. It seems the word, with its multiplicity of uses, points two different directions: one toward the mundane the other toward inspiration.
We have already seen how we impose or construct meaning in our lives and how these meanings usually freeze and close that which is inherently open and dynamic.
Then there is the word “meaning†as the quest for what gives life aliveness.
I would suggest that we agree on certain utilization of language to avoid this apparent confusion. Let’s use “meaning†to represent our tendency to organize and make sense of appearances. Lets use the word “inspiration†to reference the fruit of the questing.
Then we would not ask “what is the meaning of life†(for we ascribe and impose meaning on life) but rather we would ask “what gives inspiration to lifeâ€
In this manner we are staying true to the TSK intention that the vision provide an opportunity to have a lived sense of its reality.
Whatever gives inspiration to life enables me to feel alive.
