Flowing Both Ways

Years ago it was a wonderful discovery to have revealed to me—during a retreat at the Nyingma Institute—that the senses are two way channels.  This deepened my experience, and to this day, walking under a tree whose branches are singing in the wind, I feel how that wind is not only drawing my attention to the richness of the world, but that this world is showing me who I am.

For a few months I have been feeling/envisioning (and beginning-to-implement) a new novel, in which I hope that the TSK vision of knowledge (as a field, a logos, a substratum of the time in which we live) can flow into me and that I will then discover myself taking dictation from a deeper knowledge from our beleaguered planet.

It would seem that wishful thinking is alive and well.

This week, enjoying the reading from Knowledge of Time and Space, I realized that I seemed especially open to it, especially appreciative of what I was being taught about my world and my own presence within it.  Then it occurred to me that my desire to bring some of this understanding into my own activities (in my case an initiative to bring some of this wisdom into a work of fiction) was also allowing me to be more open to the wisdom itself.

Perhaps this is also an example of the relationship between vision and action: we need to act on a vision or it will succumb to idle day dream, and we need to bring a fresh vision into daily life to prevent ourselves from becoming frozen mechanisms of repetition.

About Michael Gray

I first started studying TSK in the mid 1980's and have since attended a number of retreats and workshops at the Nyingma Institute, in both TSK and Buddhist themes. I participated in the life-changing Human Development Training Program in 1991, and upon returning to Albuquerque co-founded an organization, Friends in Time (with a friend who has Lou Gehrig's Disease), which continues to serve people with similiar disabilities. I contributed an essay to "A New Way of Being"--the last one in the book--in which I describe how learning to honor who I have been has broadened and deepened my openness to present experience. I live in New Mexico with my wife and two sons.

Looking forward to seeing this new novel – and if you need a reviewer…I hope with the new website updates we might be able to incorporate links to such writings.
